Aaaaand so it starts

This week was a big week in the de Wit family. Our eldest child started school at a very grown up five and a half. It was slightly emotional for me, more so the night before as I got all her uniform and lunch ready. I was emotional because I had prayed and prayed about the reality of sending Abby to the private Christian school we'd chosen and at the time I prayed, it was an impossibility. However, here we were two year's later and God had miraculously made a way for our baby to go to the school we wanted , how incredible. And admittedly I was slightly emotional because I had only just found  out school started the next morning and not the following day which I had in my head, for some reason. The perfect, organised part of my brain went into overdrive at the thought of Abbys first day of school being ruined by a panicky morning where we didn't have everything we needed to get her off to school. It was almost comical but we made it. She woke up early and I explained that she could either start school the following day, as we had discussed, or she could start that day. When she found out that everyone was starting that day, she was all smiles and agreed to start school that day too.

Usually getting dressed in our home is more often than not a drama. Unfortunately for some reason whatever clothes I choose are either too tight, have an uncomfortable fit, have a hole somewhere or just aren't to Missy's liking. At least with a uniform the choice is set and pre-decided so that fight is now eliminated (thank God)!

One thing I am so grateful for is our amazing family. We had almost all our immediate family pop past to wish her a good morning and see her off to school. Abigail had an entourage of Nin, Nana, Papa, mum, dad, brothers, auntie, Uncle and next-door-neighbour all seeing her into her classroom, probably more excited than she was! It was very cute and a very momentous occasion for us as the first niece and grandchild starts school.

It is now Thursday and although admittedly school is 'tiring', Abby conceded last night, she has come home after three days reading her first book! Very proud mummy moment, having your daughter read you a bedtime story. Even if the book was only about a dog on a mat and a cat who was fat. It was just too sweet.

And so starts Abigail's school adventure. First week of many to come, first year of thirteen more! Here's hoping and praying the enthusiasm, love for learning and all round delight at life sticks around for longer than just a few terms.
